"Cavalier King Charles" 10" x 8" Watercolor
I saw this little dog at the recent Fort Worth Kennel Club show and couldn't resist painting him. This breed dates back to the sixteenth century and was a favorite of England's King Charles II, who had several spaniels that reportedly followed him everywhere -- even into the Houses of Parliament. The King Charles Spaniel can be found in many paintings by old masters including Titian, Van Dyck, Gainsborough, Landseer, Manet and Sargent. |
